Rare and heritage breed poultry raised in Northern New York — including Guinea Hens for natural Lyme disease prevention. Hatching eggs and chicks coming once we're re-established.
We focus on rare and heritage breeds with purpose — pest control, Lyme prevention, orchard health, and genetic preservation. Once re-established, hatching eggs and chicks will be available with pricing and availability forms on this page.
One of the oldest and most genetically pure chicken breeds in existence, Icelandics are hardy, self-sufficient foragers. They thrive in cold Northern NY winters and are exceptional free-rangers — perfect for orchard integration.
Guinea fowl are renowned tick predators — a single guinea can consume hundreds of ticks per day. Our rare and fancy varieties serve a critical secondary mission: natural Lyme disease prevention for our property and surrounding land.
A critically rare American heritage turkey breed with rich, dark meat and excellent foraging instincts. Bourbon Reds are an important part of heritage livestock preservation and will integrate naturally into the orchard system.
Named for their distinctive blue-gray plumage, Slate turkeys are another critically rare American heritage breed. Calm, hardy foragers that thrive in pasture and orchard environments alongside other poultry and livestock.
Lyme disease is a serious and growing threat in Northern New York. Transmitted by black-legged ticks (deer ticks), it affects humans, dogs, livestock, and wildlife alike — and our property and rescue animals are not immune.
Guinea fowl are nature's answer. A single guinea hen can eat hundreds of ticks per day, dramatically reducing tick populations on and around the property without chemicals or pesticides.
This is a secondary mission of the Heron Bay Cliffs Rescue & Rehab Center — protecting the health of our animals, our volunteers, and the surrounding community through natural, sustainable tick management.
Once the orchard is fenced and the flock is re-established, our guineas will roam the property year-round providing continuous, chemical-free Lyme prevention.
The new poultry operation won't just share land with the orchard — it will be integrated inside it. Once the orchard is planted and fenced, the flock will be housed within the orchard perimeter, creating a closed-loop system that benefits both.
This is why poultry operations are paused until the orchard is ready. The two programs are designed to work together — not separately.
A closed-loop system where the poultry feeds the trees and the trees feed the poultry — reducing costs and chemical inputs across the whole operation.
We'll send one email when hatching eggs, chicks, keets, and poults become available — along with pricing and availability details. No spam, no newsletters.
